    In the north of Cáceres province lies the municipality of Zarza de Granadilla, which dates back to the 15th century.

    Following the construction of the Gabriel y Galán reservoir, the town of Granadilla had to be abandoned and became joined to the town of La Zarza.

    Today, Zarza de Granadilla offers many places of architectural interest that are well worth visiting, such as the 16th century church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the chapel of El Cristo de la Misericordia, which was built in the 18th century.

    And for those who enjoy good food, we recommend trying some of the delicious local dishes, excellent cured meats and especially the typical cakes and pastries such as Coquillos, Perrunillas, Floretas and Roscas Fritas.

    During your stay, be sure to visit the town of Granadilla, which is currently being restored and where most of its Almohad defensive walls, the medieval castle and the parish church still stand.
