  • The Romanejo oak tree has been awarded the title of a Unique Tree because of its imposing stature and the awesome volume of its canopy

It is to be found in the Jerte Valley, taking the El Torno turnoff from the Cabezabellosa road, surrounded by ferns, brambles, daphne gnidium, cytisus scoparius and chestnut trees. Here at Romanejo, we find the Acarreadero oak tree. This Pyrenean oak (Querqus pyrenaica) has been recognised as a Unique Tree of Extremadura to reflect its majestic appearance. It is said that shepherds used to bring their flocks here to shelter under its canopy. It was said that its infinite branches and leafy canopy could shelter over a thousand sheep.

This magnificent tree is 25 metres high, with its trunk being between 6 and 10 metres round. It is around 500 years old.
