FIO, ornithology showcase

If you love birds and tourism in nature, you shouldn't miss FIO. It's one of the most important annual events in Europe for birdwatching professionals and amateurs, and has been taking place in the heart of Monfragüe National Park for nearly a decade. It is, without doubt, one of the most special fairs in Extremadura, because nature, adventure and leisure combine in a unique and privileged setting, providing the perfect place for birdwatching – a place designated a Biosphere Reserve because it shelters important species such as the black vulture, black stork and Spanish imperial eagle.

As it is an open forum, it promotes exhibitor and visitor participation. If you are one of the first to arrive, at FIO you'll find exhibitors displaying an array of destinations and products related to the outdoors: institutions, specialised birdwatching agencies, nature guides, photography equipment companies, etc.

If you come later on, FIO has many activities and a lot of information for you: conferences, workshops, environmental education sessions, hiking with a guide, birdwatching from many viewpoints, and even activities for the children.

What's more, every year Fotofio is held during FIO. It is a series of conferences for professional and amateur photographers who want to keep abreast of photo techniques and the latest features. Fotofio organises workshops and special talks with experts from around the world.

The Nature Photo Contest, considered to be one of the most prestigious of its kind in Spain, is another interesting feature at this fair.
